Now What Living the Lex Vivendi

Living the Lex Vivendi

The Easter Vigil was a night of transformation. We stood at the font, we were sealed with the Spirit, and we sat at the Table for the first time. But as we move through Mystagogy, we realize that the Vigil wasn’t the finish line—it was the starting block.

Since the beginning of our journey together at St. Kevin’s, we have emphasized that keeping our eyes fixed on the Cross is the key to everything. At its heart, our journey isn't just about learning; it is about building a personal, lasting relationship with Christ. Ultimately, the most important thing we can do is draw closer to Him, allowing His love to guide every step we take:

Lex Orandi & Lex Credendi

The Law of Prayer and the Law of Belief.

We have spent months learning how the Church prays and what she believes. We’ve seen how our liturgy at St. Kevin’s shapes our hearts. But these two pillars are meant to lead us to the next two: how we live and how we act.

Lex Vivendi: The Law of Living

To live a Catholic life is to recognize that we are now "Christ-bearers" in Welland. Our Lex Vivendi is our daily witness. It’s how we treat our families, how we conduct ourselves in our jobs, and how we show up for our community. At St. Kevin’s, we live this out through our Small Groups, Bible Studies, and organizations like the CWL and Knights of Columbus. These aren't just clubs; they are the "connective tissue" of our Christian life.

Lex Agendi: The Law of Acting

Now, we reach the "front lines." Our belief must move into motion. St. James tells us that faith without works is dead. Lex Agendi is the outward expression of the grace you received at Easter.

God has given each of you a specific Charism (a spiritual gift) that the rest of us need. If you don’t share it, the Body of Christ at St. Kevin’s is missing a piece!

  • Are you called to the Altar? Consider being a Lector or Altar Server.
  • Is your heart for the poor? Join the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
  • Do you have a gift for hospitality? Our Ushers and Greeters are the "first responders" of our parish.
  • Is your gift quiet service? The Altar Guild or Gardening Ministry keeps our "Home" beautiful.

Your New Mission

As your RCIA journey shifts into parish life, don't be afraid to try something new. You don't need to be a lifelong Catholic to serve; you just need to be a baptized one!

The way we pray (Orandi) and the way we believe (Credendi) must find their fulfillment in the way we live (Vivendi) and the way we act (Agendi).

Reflection for the Neophytes: Look at the list of ministries in the back of the bulletin this Sunday. Which one makes your heart beat a little faster? That might just be the Holy Spirit whispering, "This is your Lex Agendi."
